Food and beverage servers perform some or all of the following duties:
  • Greet patrons, present menus, make recommendations and answer questions regarding food and beverages
  • Take orders and relay to kitchen and bar staff
  • Recommend wines that complement patrons' meals
  • Serve food and beverages
  • Prepare and serve specialty foods at patrons' tables
  • Present bill to patrons and accept payment
  • Order and maintain inventory of wines and wine glassware
  • Perform sensory evaluation of wines.

Education & Job Requirements for Food and Beverage Servers in Ottawa Region

Education and job requirements can vary by region. Workers in regulated occupations require a licence to work legally. Workers in non-regulated occupations do not require a licence, but employers may have other certification requirements.

Present, open, pour and serve wine in appropriate wine glassware. Describe and advise on wine selection.

Additional Skills:
Customer service oriented. Clear and clean tables, trays and chairs. Set tables. Must be of legal age to mix and serve alcoholic beverages. Replenish condiments and other supplies at tables and serving areas.
