Local Employment Requirements
The licensing process for engineers is administered by the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). At least one year of work experience must be obtained in a Canadian jurisdiction. It is illegal to use a title containing the term
"Engineer" without being licensed as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng.). It is possible to work in engineering without being licensed, but the work must be supervised by a licensed engineer.

In addition to technical skills, employers are seeking innovative, self motivated, creative, tactful, and diplomatic candidates with effective oral and written communication skills, time management skills, the ability to work in a team, and the ability to work well under stress with intense deadline pressure.
