Local Employment Requirements
The licensing process for engineers is administered by the Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO). At least one year of work experience must be obtained in a Canadian jurisdiction.
It is possible to work in engineering without being licensed, but the work must be supervised by a licensed engineer.
There are often specific abilities, aptitudes and knowledge that are prerequisites to obtain employment in an occupation.
Most employers who advertise are looking for workers who have the following experience and skills:
Design electrical and electronic components, systems and equipment. Prepare material cost and timing estimates, reports and design specifications. Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of electrical generation and distribution networks, electrical machinery and components and electronic communications, instrumentation and control systems, equipment, and components.
Supervise technicians, technologists, programmers, analysts and other engineers.
