The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) provides secondary school students an opportunity to gain training in an apprenticeship occupation while completing their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). For more information, please visit the OYAP Web site at http://oyap.ca/.
Trade certification is mandatory for electricians in Ontario. More information on apprenticeship and certification can be found on the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) Web site at http://www.tcu.gov.on.ca/ under Apprenticeship. Certified journeypersons in this trade can also obtain a Red Seal endorsement if they successfully complete an interprovincial standard Red Seal examination. (http://www.red-seal.ca/).
Electricians are certified, not licensed, by the MTCU. Electrical Contractors and Master Electricians are licensed in the Province of Ontario by the Electrical Contractor Registration Agency of the Electrical Safety Authority (ECRA of ESA), the regulating body.

Apprenticeship Grants (Apprenticeship Incentive Grant and Apprenticeship Completion Grant) provide up to $4,000 for eligible registered apprentices in Red Seal designated occupations.
