Currently the chances of Engineering Managers finding employment are limited because only a small number of people in this occupation are employed in the local area.

There are few engineering operations locally though some engineers may set up consulting businesses themselves and become self-employed. The burgeoning oil and gas industry holds a great deal of promise for this sector.

In Engineering management, it is becoming more common to have a Masters of Business Administration combined with a professional engineering degree. Employers will typically require that you have several years of hands-on experience leading and implementing project/action plans through various stages of operation. Postings for engineering jobs can be found on The Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia website at www.apens.ns.ca

Based on survey results of university graduates from the Maritimes, graduates of engineering programs are significantly more likely to be living outside the region, when compared to the average of all Maritime graduates. This outflow of engineering graduates could pose a challenge down the road, as the need for skilled workers intensifies, but could offer greater opportunities for those that stay in the region.

Although employment opportunities locally are limited, opportunities may exist in other areas of the province or in other regions of the country. People who are able to work elsewhere may want to research opportunities for this occupation in other labour markets within Nova Scotia and across the country. The future employment outlook for Engineering Managers in Nova Scotia is expected to be fair over the next 5 years.
