• The Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal (MBAM) will build a new pavilion that will be inaugurated in 2017. This project will require an investment estimated at more than $100M. (available in French only)

• The Ville de Lac-Mégantic has invested more than $1.3M to relocate its municipal library (available in French only)

• American Iron and Metal (AIM), a company that specializes in the recovery of construction materials, will invest more than $50M to build a plant in Montreal-Est. This project will lead to the creation of a hundred-some jobs. (available in French only)
• Chip manufacturer Old Dutch announced the shutdown of its production plant in the Lachine borough. This shutdown will take place on September 27, 2013 and lead to the loss of 216 jobs. (available in French only)
• Ville de Montréal announces a street kitchen pilot project, starting June 20, 2013. Thirty-some food trucks will sell their meals in 17 downtown areas. (available in French only)
• The arrival of Target on the Plateau in Gatineau will lead to the creation of 150 to 200 jobs (available in French only)
• Daycare service La Casa Tropical/Maison des Enfants was built in Saint-Denis-de-Brompton thanks to an $800,000 investment. Eight employees have been hired.
• Daycare Ma petite école Einstein, located on boulevard Lebourgneuf in Québec, has doubled its reception capacity. Currently, the daycare counts 23 employees. The addition of more space will lead to the creation of more than 20 jobs.
• Thirty-some workers will be affected by the temporary shutdown of the aluminum fluoride plant in July, located in Jonquière. Furthermore, nearly a dozen sub-contracting employees will be laid off during this period. (available in French only)
• After an investment of close to $5M, the Ressource Intermédiaire Domaine-du-roy opens its doors in Saint-Félicien with more than 22 employees (available in French only)

• The gouvernement du Québec will invest close to $53M in Saint-Jérôme for the construction of a new home-care centre in long-term care for people faced with a loss of independence. Construction will begin in 2015 and the opening is scheduled for 2017. (available in French only)

• Sorel firm CNC Tracy, which manufactures parts for the hydroelectric industry and steel works, has invested $1.4M to increase its productivity and create 4 new jobs (available in French only)
• A new hospital will be built in Baie-Saint-Paul at a cost of $376M. Construction will begin in 2015. The new establishment should be in business at the end of 2018. (available in French only)
• This coming May, the Davie shipyard plans to hire forty-some workers per week to reach a total of 540 employees in July
• Sawmill Bois Champigny of Potton has gone bankrupt since April 19. Thirty-some jobs were lost. (available in French only)
• More than fifty-some positions need to be filled within Cascades' plants, a manufacturer of packaging products and papers mainly made up of recycled fibers (available in French only)
• Three European companies in aeronautics will open offices in Montreal, leading to the creation of 150 positions in the next three years. The majority of the jobs will be related to engineering. (available in French only)

• Since April 15, Mistissini has its own Tim Hortons restaurant, which led to the creation of at least 20 jobs (available in French only)

• The Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières will gain a new $1.4M research chair on small or medium-sized enterprises (available in French only)
• Cinémas Guzzo will invest $18M in the construction of a motion picture theatre in Sainte-Thérèse, which will replace the current establishment. The new theatre will have 10 rooms and 2 IMAX rooms. It is due to open in December 2014. (available in French only)
• Clôtures Inovart, a new aluminum fence manufacturing company, has recently opened its doors in Bois-des-Filion. The company employs nearly a dozen people and plans to hire more. (available in French only)
• Messier-Bugatti-Dowty, a manufacturer of landing gears, has inaugurated its new plant in Mirabel. Construction required a $58M investment and will lead to the creation of 60 new jobs to its current roster of 265 jobs. (available in French only)

Week of Apr 15 – Apr 19, 2013

• Bock Equipment, which has four stores in Québec, including one in Lévis, is closing after declaring bankruptcy. About 15 people in Lévis are losing their job. (available in French only)
• Métal Duquet, located in Saint-Côme-Linière (in the Beauce region), has just expanded its plant. The investment will enable the company to stabilize its production. Eight to 10 jobs will be created by the end of next year. (available in French only)
• DBO Expert, a distributor of wastewater treatment technologies, has invested $690,000 to renovate its facilities in Sherbrooke. In addition to the 10 jobs being consolidated, three new positions have been created and three more are expected. (available in French only)
• Quinco & Cie in Magog, which specializes in the design of self-adhesive wall tiles, is investing $866,450 to purchase new equipment. In addition to the 20 or so jobs being consolidated, 10 new positions are expected in the short term. (available in French only)
• Rotec International of Baie-du-Febvre, which specializes in the production of adjustable electric beds, is investing $639,000 to optimize its production processes. Some 70 jobs will be consolidated as a result. (available in French only)
• Claude Joyal, a company that sells and repairs farm equipment, has purchased the Elphège Boissonneault garage in Lyster. More than $800,000 has been invested there to set up a showroom and to store parts. (available in French only)
• PhasOptx Telecom will be opening a new branch in Disraeli (in the Appalaches regional county municipality) in 2014. The project will generate $10 M in spending and should create 120 jobs over the next three years. Hiring is expected to start in the fall. (available in French only)
• Sixpro in Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil, the largest paint coating subcontractor in Quebec, is investing $2M to purchase state-of-the art equipment. Roughly a dozen new jobs should be created. (available in French only)
• Following a $950,000 investment, J.N. Donais, the largest funeral cooperative in the Centre-du-Québec region, has just opened its fully-renovated complex on Lindsay Street in Drummondville (available in French only)
• Elad Canada, a real estate developer, is proceeding with two high-rise residential buildings with over 2000 units. The final phases of the Nordelec site in Lachine and Cité Nature in Rosemont will be completed in 2014. (available in French only)
• The Maxi supermarket located in the Galeries Laurentides in Saint-Jérôme will move into the space formerly occupied by Zellers in the fall of 2013 after spending over $2M on renovations. The new location offers double the square footage. (available in French only)
• Humani, a private medical clinic offering family medicine services, recently opened in Rosemere. Construction had started in 2012. The facility has hired over 20 people and its offerings include a variety of specialized services. (available in French only)
• The primary college in Saint-Ambroise will be rebuilt and expanded at a cost of $5.5M (available in French only)
• 3 Wing Canadian Forces Base in Bagotville will be spending close to $11M on new radar systems (available in French only)
• The Centre d'entreprenariat et d'essaimage of the Université du Québec in Chicoutimi, will be building an $11M aluminum processing plant in Alma (available in French only)
• The City of Saguenay is investing $2.5M to renovate the Georges Vézina centre (available in French only)
• An 84-room hotel will be built on the site of the Far Hills hotel in Val-Morin and will include a restaurant and a conference room. The project, which is to cost over $10M, will begin in September and will open in the winter of 2014, creating 80 jobs. (available in French only)
• Laurier 1936, a restaurant formerly known as Laurier BBQ, has closed, putting close to 40 people out of work in Montréal (available in French only)
• Station des Sports, a restaurant/sports bar chain, will be opening a sixth operation in Laval at the former Brasserie Place des Saules location in late April (available in French only)
• Le Grand Manoir, a seniors home in Saint-Jean-de-Matha, will be investing over $4M starting in March 2014 to expand its facilities by adding another 40 or so units. New positions will be created on top of the 45 existing ones. (available in French only)
• A $469,000 training project aims to develop skills among owners of outfitting businesses in the Outaouais. $8.3M in economic spin-offs are anticipated along with a potential dozen or so new jobs. (available in French only)
• Hewitt Equipment Ltd., an authorized Caterpillar dealer, is opening a training centre on the West Island of Montreal. The estimated value of the project is $8M. (available in French only)
• Soucy Plastiques in Drummondville, a subcontractor supplying contractors in the recreational, military, agricultural and transport sectors, is investing $600,000 in state-of-the art equipment (available in French only)
• The CSDM (Montreal school board) is eliminating approximately 70 teaching positions in its system in order to eliminate a deficit of over $47M (available in French only)
• A number of businesses in various industries in the Stanstead area are seeking to fill 15 positions (available in French only)
• Pharmascience Inc., a drug manufacturer, is opening its new distribution centre in Dorval following a $4M investment. The move is part of an initial expansion and modernization phase for the company's plants in Montréal. The value of the project is $41M. (available in French only)
• Hélène de Champlain, a restaurant in Montréal, is continuing the expansion and renovation of the heritage building that began in 2010 at a cost of $16M (available in French only)
