Local Employment Requirements
Grade 12, or equivalent, is required. Some employers may require completion of a pre-employment training program.
Trade certification is compulsory in P.E.I. To be eligible for trade certification as a plumber new entrants must complete a four-year apprenticeship program.
Interprovincial trade certification (Red Seal) is also available to qualified plumbers and allows for interprovincial mobility.
Skills Requirements
There are often specific abilities, aptitudes and knowledge that are prerequisites to obtain employment in an occupation.
Most employers who advertise are looking for workers who have the following experience and skills.
Experience:
1-5 years
Specific Skills:
Install, repair and maintain plumbing fixtures and systems. Join pipes with couplings, clamps, screws, bolts or cement. Inspect and test pipes for leaks.
Additional Skills:
Instruct apprentices.

Local Training
Holland College:
The Plumbing program is developed from nationally identified skills for piping occupations. It is a nine month program offered in Georgetown.

Innovation and Advanced Learning - Apprenticeship Section:
The Apprenticeship Section will arrange training for registered apprentices. In-school apprenticeship training is provided at Holland College. Six weeks of block release training is offered in Georgetown for this occupation.
