Motor Vehicle Body Repairer is an apprenticeable trade in which students must complete a total of 7200 hours of educational training and work experience before writing the journeyperson's examination for certification with Red Seal endorsement. The Red Seal endorsement supports mobility through interprovincial recognition of trade qualifications.

The apprenticeship program is based on a combination of in-school and on-the-job training. Any person wishing to become registered as an apprentice, in a designated occupation, must first complete a Grade 12 education or equivalent. Registration as a mature student may also be permitted upon approval from the Director of the Institutional and Industrial Education Division, Department of Education. Individuals must then complete coursework and work experience as specified by the Institutional and Industrial Education Division. Courses may be available as full-time entry-level courses and/or through self-paced programs which allow apprentices the flexibility to complete courses at their own convenience throughout the apprenticeship. Work experience must be completed with a Motor Vehicle Body Repairer Journeyperson in order to be recognized. All in-school training and practical experience requirements must be completed before an apprentice can qualify to write the interprovincial journeyperson's examination and become a certified tradesperson in this occupation.

Those not possessing the formal education requirements but wishing to become certified in the trade can challenge the examination by indicating that they have adequate experience (9000 hours) and by gaining approval from the Institutional and Industrial Training Division. Once approval is granted, the candidate may write the interprovincial journeyperson's examination and, upon successful completion, become certified as a Motor Vehicle Body Repairer.
