For the 2012-2014 period, job opportunities in the Outaouais region are expected to be good for this occupation.
The Government of Canada's information technology (IT) transformation initiative, the goal of which is to develop more efficient and cost-effective infrastructure (electrical, banking and telecommunications systems) and improve the security and confidentiality of the main computer networks in an effort to prevent cyber-attacks, should benefit information systems analysts and consultants. Openings will result both from employment growth and from positions that become vacant as analysts and consultants take up management positions. According to the 2006 Census, the proportion of people aged 55 and over (9.1%) is lower in this occupational group than it is in all occupations combined (12.5%). Because many young people work in this occupational group, there will be few openings as a result of retirements.
People in this occupation work primarily in Public Administration (52%), Professional, Scientific and Technical Services (28%), and Information and Cultural Industries (4%). Employers seek people who have exhaustive up-to-date technical knowledge in programming and operating systems. They must have strong mathematical skills, be up to date on innovations, and demonstrate skills in synthesis, analysis and problem solving.
