The Working in Canada Web site provides job seekers, workers and those who are new to the Canadian labour market with the information required to make informed decisions about where to live and work. The site can assist individuals who are searching for work or looking to make career decisions.
WorkinginCanada.gc.ca is the Government of Canada's leading source for labour market information. It offers users, free and authoritative occupational and career information such as educational requirements, main duties, wage rates and salaries, current employment trends and outlooks.
Developed through the Going to Canada Immigration Portal initiative (a partnership between Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC) and Canada’s provinces and territories), the Working in Canada Web site is in the process of being redesigned to provide information for new audiences: job seekers, current workers, youth & students, older workers and aboriginal people. WorkinginCanada.gc.ca will continue to provide newcomers to Canada with helpful information to facilitate their integration into the Canadian work force.
About the Working in Canada Tool
Use the Working in Canada Tool to produce a report on job descriptions, wages, skill requirements, language training and job opportunities based on your occupation and a location. By researching different occupations and different locations, you can make decisions that are right for you and your family.
When a Working in Canada Tool report is generated, the Tool dynamically pulls information from a variety of Government of Canada sources:
National Occupational Classification (NOC)
The NOC is the authoritative source on occupational information in Canada. The NOC provides a standardized framework for organizing the world of work in a coherent system and is implemented in a number of major services and products throughout the private and public sectors.
The classification is updated in partnership with Statistics Canada according to 5 year Census cycles. It is based on extensive occupational research and consultation conducted across the country, reflecting the evolution of the Canadian labour market.
Labour market information or LMI includes occupational or career information such as educational requirements, main duties, wage rates, the availability of workers, current employment trends and the outlook for the position.
A team of professionals from all parts of Canada provides the LMI information available in this site. They work mostly in local Service Canada / Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) offices in all parts of the country, to answer questions you might have about the labour market in Canadian communities.
Encouraging the recognition of qualifications across Canada benefits workers and employers alike. Workers have a wider range of opportunities and employers have a broader selection of candidates. There are a number of regulated professions in Canada. People working in regulated occupations include doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers and architects, among others.
Essential Skills are the skills needed for work, learning and life. They provide the foundation for learning all other skills and enable people to evolve with their jobs and adapt to workplace change.

CanLearn.ca is Canada's trusted source of information that supports awareness and decision-making to help individuals save, plan and pay for post secondary education and pursue future career opportunities. CanLearn.ca was developed by the Department of Human Resources and Skills Development Canada in collaboration with provincial and territorial governments and Canadian learning and career development organizations.
Canadian Occupational Projection System (COPS)
Human Resources and Skills Development Canada develops projections of future labour demand and labour supply by broad skill level and by occupation, using the models of the Canadian Occupational Projection System. These projections allow for identifying those occupations that are likely to face shortage or surplus of workers over the medium term.
